Fifty years ago, on 20 July 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first men to walk on the moon as part of NASA’s Apollo 11 lunar mission. It was a remarkable moment in humanity’s understanding of space exploration.
To mark this auspicious occasion, Vanity Fair has produced a beautiful space edition of its biannual watch magazine On Time in which we’re thrilled to say our very own David Duggan features.
David is one of a 50-strong list of the world’s top watch experts who were asked by the influential magazine to share their favourite astronomical timepiece. We won’t tell you which one David chose – you’ll have to buy the magazine to find out – but we can tell you it’s an absolute classic.
The magazine also features a fascinating interview with Hollywood star Jessica Chastain (Interstellar, The Martian) about her early passion for watches and how Sigourney Weaver’s starring role in Alien showed her that female characters could be every bit the hero as their male counterparts. There’s also a wonderful feature on the millennia-old links between horology and lunar observation and an in-depth look at the watches that were designed to go to space.
The Spring 2019 edition of On Time is available with the April edition of Vanity Fair.
One To Watch will be marking the 50th anniversary of the moon landings in July 2019, so keep an eye out for that. In the meantime, why not take a look at our comprehensive guide to watch complications, including the gorgeous moonphase?
David Duggan Watches’ expert team offers more than 150 years’ combined experience in the field of horology and is a member of the British Horological Institute and an associate member of Sotheby’s – both awarded in recognition of outstanding levels of knowledge and service.
If you are looking to buy or sell a luxury timepiece, or just in need of some advice, you will always be greeted with a warm welcome in our showroom. We look forward to seeing you.
